TEEN PROGRAMS

Introduction to Teen Check

It is apparent that we live in a fast paced, speed racing, technological time. With high expectations and even higher demands, it is important that we begin to help our teens recognize and avoid the negative influences that constantly surround them.

Teen Check programs contain standard modules designed to address specific topics. Each module (or session) is approximately 2 hours in duration. Modules can be selected and customized to accommodate the needs of individual groups. Teen Check can be offered to groups of teen girls, teen boys, or as a combined group through two distinct programs;

Platinum Girls is specifically for teen girls (ages 12 through 19 years of age).

Go Forth And Lead is for teen boys and girls (ages 12 through 19 years of age)

Here is a menu list of several of the modules (or sessions) that are available:

  • The Value of Time
    • This session is designed to teach the value of time, to show teens who controls it, and to display that by having and sticking to their foundation for living they can build strong, quality lives.

    • How Values Become Virtues
      • The focus of this session is to help teens develop and adhere to their own moral code by establishing standards and values, and understanding how values become virtues.

    • Healthy Living
      • Weight and dieting concerns are linked more strongly to social psychological issues than to physical health matters. This session deals with concerns that correlate with decreased self-esteem and increased depression.
    • Stairway to Love & Respect
      • This session explores the importance of love and respect when emotionally involved with another person; as well as how these two components create the foundation for a healthy relationship.
    • Empower and Motivate
      • This session views the educational process as not just one that takes place in a building; but one that continues in the world and throughout life.
    • Dealing with Anger Triggers
      • In this session, teens will learn how to identify and avoid situations that could cause harm to themselves or to someone else.
    • The Ability to Forgive
      • Forgiveness increases in difficulty as our interactions, developmental capacities, and personal ideals about life and people become more complex. This session focuses on acceptance of others.
    • Friendships and Relationships
      • This session explores the importance of seeking healthy, non-threatening relationships.
    • Family Matters
      • With differences in the definition of the family unit - with step-parents, half/step-siblings, grandparent/aunt/uncle guardians; this session seeks to help our teens understand, respond and interact appropriately in these ever-changing family structures.
    • Absent Fathers, Active Fathers
      • This session will open with a discussion about the differences in the roles of mothers and fathers and how the balance of both influences teen development.
    • Video vs. Real Life
      • Teens are often influenced by the images they see on television. This session takes a look into the real world of celebrities, on and off the screen.
    • Celebration of Life
      • This session is designed as a review and to provide an opportunity to address unanswered questions. It will also be focused on why each life is a cause for celebration.
